When I moved West 10 years ago, there was one thing I never dreamed of seeing: a garage in my backyard. A mountain lion, sure, John Elway and a real cowboy. But not a garage.

I once had a garage, back East, in college. It was handy for storing junk, my weights set and a trailered boat. But the move to Colorado meant leaving the V-hull behind. "Where would we use a boat in Colorado?" my wife asked years ago. (I couldn't answer through my sobs as my prized fishing vessel rode off hitched to another man's truck.)

But my wife's garage pitch was clever: "You can use the garage to hold your new boat." It would be joined by our only car. But I shivered. I saw myself losing open space and gardening room in our modest backyard.

I enjoy parking on a Western street. I can commune with nature by scraping ice off the car in winter, or sliding into a 500-degree driver's seat in our ever-longer summers.

A sizeable chunk expressed concern that social unrest against large industrial projects could rise in the coming year. Overall, inadequate infrastructure development, the rising rupee and the impending global slowdown were mentioned as the top concerns that could cripple Indian growth story.

The poll was conducted in December throughout the country and included big and small firms from all major sectors including metals, automobiles, information technology, engineering, hotel and tourism, real estate, aviation, pharmaceuticals, financial services and consumer durables.

In line with 2007 trends, 102 of the 118 CEOs (86.4 per cent) said the rupee would gain against the dollar in 2008. Sixty four said the rupee would touch 38 against the dollar by December 2008, 25 put the number at 37 and two said it could climb to 36 against the greenback.

The very title “Bernard and Doris" (8 p.m., Saturday, HBO) suggests a quiet domesticity, a tale of homebodies who have grown accustomed to each other's rhy thms and quirks. And that's not entirely wrong. This made-for-TV drama is bas ed on the much-reported story of billionaire heiress Doris Duke (Susan Sarandon) and her butler, Bernard Lafferty (Ralph Fiennes). Lafferty's name figured pro minently in Duke's will, and so me suspect that he slowly kill ed her with drugs as he kept her isolated from the outside wor ld. That tabloid version of events was reflected in the 1999 CBS miniseries “Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke," starring Lauren Bacall as Duke and Richard Chamberlain as a wick ed, cackling Lafferty. Based on fact, fiction and sp ec ulation, “Bernard and Dor is" builds rather slowly and offers an entirely different view.

That's 32 signees, which is well over the 25 scholarship offers allowed per year. So some of those high school players will either be shipped out to a junior college or be asked to grayshirt, which means they wouldn't enroll until January and be counted toward next year's recruiting class.

Seeking a quick junior-college fix has been around almost as long as the forward pass. Oklahoma State's latest class has eight juco transfers, Tulsa signed four and Oklahoma three.

But 19? Be it a bold move or an act of desperation, Prince's heavy reliance on junior college talent sent reporters and K-State officials scrambling for the record books.

I had a 3 hour class on laws and hand gun use. 2. I then had to complete a test on the information presented in the class. 3. I had to hit a target 12" by 12" at 15 feet with at least 90% accuracy. 3. I had a city back ground check. 4. I had a county background check. 5. I had a state/FBI background check. 6. I was finger printed and this was sent to the state capital that issued my permit. The training is there and with experience a person can carry, and provide some additional safety for people around them. To add safety for a place that is as populated as this state having this along with a visit or two with a psychologist could make for a very secure CCW for the state! I think that it is time for Illinois to catch up with the times. --Anonymous Stricter gun control will not keep our students in schools completely safe.
