Lots of work and preparation goes into annual Bristol race
The Food City 250 is the 10-race-to-go mark in the NASCAR Busch Series season. In the first 24 races of 2006, there have been 14 different winners (Kevin Harvick leads with five wins) and 12 different Busch Pole winners (Denny Hamlin - six). Mark Martin, the series' all-time wins leader (47) added to that record with his 29th career pole at Michigan last Saturday, breaking the first-place tie between him and Tommy Ellis (28). .
Sagging housing market costs 17 Collier jobs
Joe Schmitt, administrator for the Community Development and Environmental Services Division, said he personally told the employees Thursday that their jobs in the division are being eliminated. The cuts are because of revenue shortages, not for performance issues, Schmitt said. Lee County also recently cut 29 employees from its community development department in the face of falling revenues. Along with those being laid off in Collier County, between nine and 13 employees are expected to accept early retirement. Incentives such as three years of medical coverage are being offered as a buy-out, Schmitt said. Employees have until the end of March to decide. The cuts are in response to an “economic slowdown that has impacted work volume and revenue," according to an announcement from county officials.
Frail: Hearts need killer touch
I'd love Robbo back but not as manager as of yet, still a few too many question marks there...Frail and Robbo would make great coaching back-up to an experienced and proven manager but i think that most managers would want to bring in their own people first. Jefferies and Brown with Robbo as strikers coach would perhaps work but then frail would probably just be left with the U19's and with us just signing Murray's new contract that might not be an option. We should definitely find a place for Frail at the club and repay the work he has done behind the scenes to keep things together. Hearts have been guilty of not repaying loyalty from the people we should call the 'Hearts family' of late and that is only counter-productive to the team. Robbo's treatment first time round was a disgrace but the apointment of Burley was a master-stroke (albeit short lived and eventually ruined by others' stupidity)...lets not get sentimental here though Robbo is someone we should have around the club much the same way as McCoist was always part of the foundations at Ibrox but as for the manager's position we need another Burley style apointment...Scala? .
Ford banks on parental duties to keep him out of prison
Federal prosecutors said Ford is making the same arguments he made in November when Breen postponed Ford's prison report date for the second time. “How is Mr. Ford any different than any other single parent who has to go to jail?" prosecutor Lorraine Craig said. “Many, many defendants are in the exact same position and they go to jail and they have to make arrangements." Ford, 65, the marquee defendant in the FBI's wide-reaching Tennessee Waltz undercover public corruption sting, was convicted last April of taking $55,000 in bribes as a legislator. .
